Demolition crew to remove old IR bridge beams

March 13, 2013

No, it's not another bridge going up over the Indian River Inlet. Crews have attached metal support systems to the old bridge as they begin to remove beams during the ongoing demolition project. Removal of the northern half of the girders on the old, northbound bridge was expected to start this week and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Once complete, work will start on the removal of the north pier structures. Removal of the south half of the girders is expected to be completed in mid-May with the removal of the remaining pier structures to be completed by the end of May, ending the demolition project.
