GenSilent Task Force forming in Cape Regiom
GenSilent Task Force is a group of seniors from the greater Lewes-Rehoboth area affiliated with All Saints' Episcopal Church/St. George's Chapel in the initial stages of establishing a network of progressive faith communities to help care for the area's aging lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. In parallel, CAMP Rehoboth also has recently established a similar group under the umbrella of the CAMP-Mautner Project.
CAMP-Mautner Cares offers services and volunteers to LGBT persons living with serious illnesses in the area. GenSilent wishes to partner with CAMP Rehoboth to strengthen outreach to vulnerable seniors and the ill within the LGBT community. It is this new group's hope that other members of the faith communities from the Lewes-Rehoboth area will join in.
The purpose of the GenSilent Task Force is:
• To provide volunteers from the progressive faith community who would receive training and work through CAMP Rehoboth/Mautner Project
• To educate healthcare professionals about the LGBT community needs in times of failing health
• To reach out to people from their congregations and the larger community in need of this service.
The motivation for establishing the group stems from the documentary "GenSilent," filmed in Boston. It reveals the sometimes tragic problems aging LGBT seniors face as they choose to remain in their homes, yet still need help in doing so.
The Task Force with the CAMP-Mautner Cares Project is planning a screening of "GenSilent" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach. They will be reaching out to many area congregations in this effort. It is their hope that the public will join them in this exciting and vital new ministry.
