Milton Century Club announces scholarship program; apply by April 30

March 20, 2013

The Milton Century Club has expanded its scholarship program with the aim of encouraging young women to attend college. This year, two scholarships, each in the amount of $2,000, will be awarded to college-bound 12th-grade girls residing within the 19968 ZIP code or who were eligible to attend Mariner Middle School in Milton.

Applications are available in the guidance offices at Cape Henlopen High School and Sussex Technical High School. For homeschooled or GED applicants, an application may be requested by sending an email to the Milton Century Club Education Committee at judyshandler@comcast.net with Century Club Scholarship in the subject line. The deadline for applications is Tuesday, April 30.

The club is proud of Mary Beth Gooding, who won the scholarship last year. A 2012 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, Mary Beth is completing her freshman year at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington, N.C., with plans to pursue a degree in special education. Milton Century Club President Mary Ann Donnan enjoyed meeting Mary Beth over lunch in February in Wilmington and congratulated her on her successful transition to college.

“We are happy for the opportunity to award two scholarships this year and eager to receive many applications,” said Judy Shandler, chair of the education committee. “There are many deserving young women in our community; please complete an application so we can assist you to reach your academic goals.”

The Milton Century Club is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The GFWC is one of the world’s oldest and largest women’s service organizations dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. Each club sets its agenda and works on projects and programs that address the specific needs of its communities.
