Patterns of the Sea exhibit opening April 6 at Ellen Rice Gallery

March 25, 2013

Artist Ellen Rice revealed her photography skills last month in an exhibit titled Flowers: The Hidden Passion of Ellen Rice. Throughout April, Rice will exhibit both photography and paintings in a new exhibit, Patterns of the Sea, at her art gallery in Ocean View.

A reception will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 6, featuring what Rice describes as an abstract focus on fascinating patterns along the shore's edge in photographs and paint, from pools of shells and dancing ghost crabs to shadows in the sand, reflections on water and the power of storm-arched waves.

Before going full time with her paintings in 1982, Rice was a multiple award-winning journalist and photojournalist. She entered the news profession doing illustrations, but soon branched into photography and writing. Before leaving the news world to pursue her art full time, she had become an editor and corporate human resources liaison with more than 60 professional awards for her writing, photography and design work.

Throughout the past two decades as a full-time artist, she has continued to photograph the world around her, but until last month had never shown her photography.

The public is invited to Rice's Patterns of the Sea exhibit April 6-30 at The Ellen Rice Gallery, 103 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View, 2.2 miles west of Bethany Beach in the west end of the Country Wicker building.

In the meantime, everyone is invited enjoy to the last week of Rice's colorful Flowers: The Hidden Passion of Ellen Rice exhibit. All of the photographic images on display for both shows are available as giclée prints in various sizes and prices.
