LYC Foundation grant deadline is April 15

March 24, 2013

The Lewes Yacht Club Foundation is requesting that all non-profit organizations that share the mission of enhancing the potential of youth in sailing, swimming and maritime activities and education, submit their applications for grants to the foundation by Monday, April 15.

In only two grant cycles in 2011 and 2012, the foundation has given four college scholarships; awarded a grant to an Eagle Scout who constructed an inflatable whale used by the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute; provided funding for area fishing contests; helped underserved children take a week of sailing instruction; provided instructors to teach sailing; took youngsters at Children’s Beach House sailing; helped restore a Monomoy rescue row boat; and provided funding to the Lewes Historical Society for its family boat-building project and several other projects.

The LYC Foundation has made a donation at the platinum level to the Sussex Family YMCA to support Water Safety Week which runs April 1-5. Water Safety Week is designed to provide the opportunity for any child, regardless of their financial resources, to have swim lessons. It is anticipated that 400 children will learn how to swim during the 2013 program.

The LYC Foundation believes that all youth should have an opportunity to learn about and enjoy the Delaware Bay; that all youth have intrinsic value and worth; and that the foundation can make a positive difference in the life of a young person.

The LYC Foundation is a 501c3 organization. Grant applications can be found at www.lycfoundation.com/grants.html.
