Zwaanendael Women's Club presents nursing scholarship

March 31, 2013

At its monthly meeting March 9, the General Federation of Women’s Club's  Zwaanendael Women's Club presented a scholarship to the student who has achieved academic excellence at completion of the fall semester during the first year at Beebe School of Nursing.

This year's recipient of the GFWC Zwaanendael Women's Club Scholarship is Alexa Colegrove. Alexa lives in Milton and has a special interest in cardiovascular nursing. Eventually she would like to be a nurse practitioner.

The Zwaanendael Women's Club of Lewes was founded in 1905 by a group of community-minded women in Lewes who then joined the Delaware State Federation of Women's Club and the General Federation of Women's Club.  All members are dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service.

The major fundraiser is the Lewes Telephone Directory, which enables the club to maintain the historic clubhouse situated at the corner of Third Street and Savannah Road in Lewes. The other fundraiser to promote scholarships are the teas they sponsor three or four times a year.

The next Zwaanendael event will be a Victorian Tea to be held Tuesday, April 30 at a cost of $20, with a fashion show by Twila Farrell.  Seating is limited.  For tickets call 302-644-7264.  There will be a contest for the best hat worn.

The club meets on the third Tuesday of each month from September to May at the clubhouse.  For more information call 302-947-2640.
