Cape May-Lewes Ferry announces new schedule

New early departures offered on both sides of Delaware Bay
March 29, 2013

Cape May-Lewes Ferry officials have announced that a new schedule will take effect Monday, April 1. The new schedule features new early morning departures from both Cape May and Lewes.  The following is the new schedule for the ferry operation:

Leaving Cape May, N.J.: 6:30 and 9:30 a.m.; and 2:30 and 6 p.m. Leaving Lewes, 8 and 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 and 7:45 p.m.

According to Heath Gehrke, director of ferry operations, the new schedule was the result of customer feedback.  “From our comment cards, telephone calls, and even a number of conversations onboard the ferries, we’ve had many customer requests to have earlier departures on both sides of the Delaware Bay,” Gehrke said.  “We’re focused on providing the best, most convenient ferry service for our customers as efficiently as possible. We’re hopeful that our customers will find the new schedule convenient, and that they will ride the ferry more often as a result!”

With the morning departures on both sides of the Delaware Bay leaving an hour earlier, Gehrke noted that the new schedule allows commercial and leisure travelers to get an earlier start on their trip.  It will also make it easier for people to use the ferry for day trips, with more time for locals and visitors to explore the attractions and adventures available on the other side of the Bay and still return home the same day.

The current base schedule is effective through Oct. 31, 2013, and will be re-evaluated at that time.  “We will monitor traffic trends to determine the new base schedule’s impact on customer demand,” Gehrke add. “As long as our customers like it and use it, we plan to continue with the new early departures.”

Customers who plan to use the Cape May-Lewes Ferry are urged to call the Ferry’s Guest Services Department toll free at 800-64-FERRY (800-643-3779) or go to www.cmlf.com to reserve a space.
