First lady Carla Markell to present keynote address
April 4, 2013

Delaware’s first lady Carla Markell will present the keynote address for the Sisters in Success Conference Monday, May 13, at Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution. The daylong conference, led by Delaware Superior Court Judge Jan R. Jurden, brings together a team of professional women from the local community to offer a series of workshops designed to provide Delaware’s justice-involved women with the tools necessary to make a successful transition back into the community.

Following Markell’s keynote address, the women may choose to attend a variety of workshops moderated by various Delaware experts on topics focusing on emotional and behavioral changes critical for success. Available workshops will explore issues related to personal growth and health awareness, intimate partner violence, grief and loss, educational needs of children, positive relationships, employment skills, emotional development and re-entry services.

The event is sponsored by the Delaware Department of Correction, Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, the Delaware Women in the Law Section, Delaware State Bar Association, Delaware Chapter of National Association of Women Judges and the Delaware Criminal Justice Council.

“We are thrilled at the opportunity to share our experiences in support of one another. We hope to make this an annual event,"  said Jurden.
