Sister Rosa speaks to local UNICO chapter

April 8, 2013

Sister Rosa Alvarez spoke to the Rehoboth Chapter of UNICO, the Italian American service organization, at its March 19 meeting about her work with the Hispanic population in the local area.

She was instrumental in establishing La Esperanza, a community center for the Hispanic population, in 1996; La Red, a health center in Georgetown in 2001; and Gardenia House, a shelter for abused, abandoned and battered women and their children, in 2006.

The Rehoboth Chapter has been a financial supporter of Sister Rosa and her works for the past five years, and individual members have volunteered their time.

Shown (l-r) are Vita Mule, UNICO member; Sister Rosa Alvarez; and Joan Boraski, UNICO outreach chair.  Members of UNICO donated diapers and other infant needs at the March 19 meeting. Member Vita Mule stitched the quilts and knitted the hats, mittens and other children's items.
