Goalie Chris Argo answers the bell; Vikings beat Archmere 11-8

Mann and Keen each score 4 goals

The Cape boys' lacrosse team went from the step-up phase of the early season schedule to the show-up portion, winning on the road at Archmere April 6, 11-8.

Cape went into the contest coming off two straight losses to Baltimore powerhouses Saint Paul’s and Severn School. Cape, missing several key players due to injury, then learned that Tony Iammatteo, the capable backup goalie to Grant Gillan, would miss the game due to illness.

Chris Argo, a 10th-grade goalie on the junior varsity roster, got the varsity start and responded with a heroic effort, picking up saves in the come-from-behind win which saw Cape outscore the Auks 7-3 in the second half.

Blake Mann and Todd Keen each had 4 goals for cape while Nick DiGuglielmo with 2 and Luke Benson with 1 rounded out the scoring for Cape.

Benson had 2 assists while Keen and DiGuglielmo each had 1.

Archmere was paced in scoring by Colin Duffy 5, Ryan Beatson 2 and Nathan Beatson.  Goalie Davis Russell had 5 saves.

Cape will host Smyrna at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, at Legends Stadium. Smyrna shocked the world of Delaware high school boys' lacrosse by beating Tatnall 7-6 on April 6 at Tatnall.

Note: The Cape girls will host Saint Mark’s Wednesday, April 10, at Champions Stadium. Then Cape girls will play Wilmington Friends at Wesley at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 12, followed by the Cape boys playing Friends at 8 p.m., both part of the Dave Reynolds Tournament.
