Albert F. Rizzo Sr., World War II veteran

Albert F. Rizzo Sr., 86, of Wilmington passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, April 6, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Rizzo was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Lucy (Callio) and James Vincent Rizzo. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School and attended Goldey Beacom College. Albert served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Patton's 14th Armored Division. He also served as a guard at the war crimes trials at Dachau. He retired as a warehouse manager with Park Distributing and then worked another 20 years in the security department of Wilmington Trust. He was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Albert was predeceased by his son, Francis J. Rizzo, in February 2012.

Albert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Louise (Hinkle) Rizzo; his sons, Paul K. and his wife Dottie of Wilmington, and Albert D. and his wife Pam of Milton; his grandsons and their fiancées, Gerardo and Katie Dougherty and Paul and Ashley DiNardo; his brothers and their spouses, Francis and Dorothy, and Lawrence and Maureen; his daughter-in-law, Diane Rizzo, all of Wilmington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff of Delaware Hospice, especially Lucy, for the care and comfort they provided for Albert.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, Tuesday, April 9, at St. Matthews Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
