Milford Drama to perform 'The Nutrition Show: Hansel and Gretel Eat Right!' April 20

April 17, 2013

Everyone knows the story of Hansel and Gretel, who are trapped by a witch after they are caught eating her house made of candy. But what if someone had stepped in to teach these children about healthy eating and warned them to be careful near the witch’s candy house?

Students of Milford High School and Milford Central Academy are preparing to perform "The Nutrition Show: Hansel and Gretel Eat Right!," a short play that shows an alternate version of the classic fairy tale. In this version, Hansel (Alex Frketic) and Gretel (Rhea Lajeunesse) run away from home when their parents try to feed them healthy food.

As they make their way through the woods, they encounter friendly creatures (Ethan Dehel, Shannon Hollingsworth and Alyson Parola) who teach them important lessons about eating a balanced meal, exercising, recycling, trying new things and more. This time when they encounter the witch (Stephanie Miller), they are prepared.

Other cast and crew members include Tyler Dehel, Kate Forehand, Chris Miller, and Abigail Roxby. The show is an ideal theater experience for preschool and elementary school children. The play is under 30 minutes, perfect for those brief attention spans. In addition, after the performance the student actors will lead young audience members in interactive activities that include games, coloring, and more.

There will be a public performance at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 20, in the Milford High School Auditorium. Admission is free.
