April 24, 2013

The Lewes Chamber of Commerce’s Historic Lewes Business Committee is sponsoring its first fiesta at the next Fun Friday event, set for May 3. Market Street between Front and Second streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 4 to 7 p.m.; the event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Fun Friday Fiesta will incorporate aspects of May Day and Cinco de Mayo celebrations. Mariachi music will set the stage for a fun-filled two hours the whole family will enjoy. Lewes chamber member Kids Cottage will host a craft project where children will have the opportunity to make their own miniature maypoles. Fiesta-themed children’s games, including piñatas, a cactus ring toss and a bean bag toss will be set up in Mary Vessels Park on Market Street.

Commemorative glasses, sponsored by United Distributors, a distributor of El Jimador Blanco tequila, will be on sale for $5 beginning May 1 at the chamber’s visitor center in the Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park next to the museum and at the festival site beginning at 4 p.m., May 3. On the day of the Fun Friday Fiesta, the glasses can be taken into participating restaurants and presented to receive a discount on margarita drinks that day.

Fiesta-themed cuisine will be featured in many of the restaurants in the historic business district. The Buttery Restaurant, Jerry’s Seafood Restaurant and A Touch of Italy will sell fiesta cuisine on Market Street from 5 to 7 p.m., May 3.

A complete list of Fun Friday Fiesta activities hosted by the participating businesses in the historic business district surrounding Second Street will be available the day of the event.
