Sussex Academy students earn honors from Georgetown Arts & Flowers Spring Art Contest

Students from the Sussex Academy in Georgetown recently received awards at the Georgetown Arts & Flowers Spring Art Contest. Students created  springtime works of art, taking inspiration from the community. Ten students among many who submitted works were selected to represent the school.

Claire Denney was awarded first place. She used string as her medium to create a group of three spring flowers, intricately weaving string back and forth to shape petals and create the look of grass.

Second place was awarded to Sarah Ashmore, who used oil pastels for her medium, depicting a beautiful girl smelling a tulip.

Kathryn Van Pelt placed third with her mixed media of melted crayons and watercolor flowers. Sussex Academy was also awarded three honorable mentions for Samara Clark, Kaylee Valasquez and Sarah Bouni. Works done by Dominic Longo, Katie Maher, Mallory Jones and Kathleen Yeary were also selected and are on display at the Georgetown library during the entire month of April; the public can vote for their favorite.
