The Jefferson School participates in Men Only Aloud festival

May 2, 2013

Ellyes Baghouli and Cody Strehle represented The Jefferson School April 12 as participants in the Delaware ACDA Young Men’s Festival, Men Only Aloud.

The festival, which was open to middle school boys statewide, was attended by more than 100 students. Much of their day was spent developing their singing techniques and expanding their repertoire as tenors and basses. Dr. Lon Berry, chorus director from Spry Middle School in Webster, N.Y., served as conductor for the event. Berry has composed and arranged more than 50 published choral pieces for which he has received several ASCAP Standard Awards, serves as middle school chair for the Eastern Division of the American Choral Directors Association, and has served as conductor at the state, regional and national conferences of the ACDA and MENC.

The festival culminated with a performance by all of the young men in attendance singing “Fillimiooriay” (Paddy Works on the Railway), “Da Pacem Domine” (Give Us Peace) and “That’s Why I Do Like I Do.”

The Jefferson School is located on 43 wooded acres in Georgetown and strives to provide innovative academic programs that foster an enthusiasm for learning.
