James W. Thawley, passion for gardening

James W. Thawley, 88, of Milford, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Milford Center.

Jim was born in Burrsville, Md., son of the late Houston and Grace (Murphy) Thawley.

Jim loved his family, church and friends. He had a passion for gardening, manicuring his yard, landscaping, woodworking and watching NASCAR. Until Jim was called home by the Lord, he enjoyed life and his cat Huz. He also enjoyed his morning meetings with friends at Hardees in Milford.

Jim was a farmer most of his life, but most recently was a truck driver for Atlantic Concrete and Howard L. Ritter and Sons.

He was a member of Avenue U.M. Church in Milford.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife: R. Louise (Larimore) Thawley; a son: James Thawley; siblings: Jean Werner, Elizabeth Thawley and John “Buck” Thawley.

He is survived by a daughter: Linda Rogers and husband Lynn; two granddaughters: Amber Terhune and husband Kenny and Blair Rogers; a grandson: Jamie Thawley; six great-grandchildren: Brooke and Bree Terhune, Kyleigh Rogers, Morgan, Logan and Wesley Thawley; and four siblings: Joan Butler, Eva Dixon, Sally Thawley and Fred Thawley.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, in the chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford, with visitation Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Milford Community Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Avenue U.M. Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, DE 19963.
