Sussex Tech Students to stage 'Grease' May 9 to 12

Sussex Technical High School will perform the 1978 American musical “Grease” Thursday-Sunday, May 9-12. Performances will take place at Possum Hall in Georgetown.

Senior Kara Bethke of Millsboro has the lead female role of vacationing Sandy Olsson, who meets and falls in love with local boy Danny Zuko, played by sophomore Cameron Malone of Laurel. When her family decides to relocate, Sandy and Danny end up attending the same 1950s high school. The musical film starred Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta. It is the No. 1 highest-grossing musical in the United States.

Student cast members of the musical’s Pink Ladies group are Lydia August, Rehoboth; Joan Shinn, Georgetown; Hannah Powers, Georgetown; Peyton Carter, Rehoboth; Jessica Bishop, Milford; and Summer Okoye, Millsboro. Male supporting roles are played by Ryan Barwick, Rehoboth; Alex Ferree, Bridgeville; Matt Rogers, Georgetown; and Kyle Steele, Frankford.

“This iconic musical is so much fun,” said director Linda Killion of Lewes. “Our rehearsals are going well, and we cannot wait to get on Possum Point’s stage for our upcoming performances.”

The performances are at 7 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, May 9, 10 and 11, and 2 p.m., Sunday, May 12. Tickets are $10 at the door with general seating.
