Mary Virginia Sadler, retired nurse

Mary Virginia Green Sadler, 84, born Sept. 1, 1928, in Baltimore, Md., died after a short illness Friday, April 26, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Evelyn Elliott and John Royston Green of Baltimore and the granddaughter of Mary M. and Carvel Green of Moukton, Md., and Nimrod and Sarah Virginia Bender Elliott of Laurel, Md.

She was predeceased by William Douglas Green, a brother, of Baltimore, and Ray Elliott, uncle, of Laurel. She graduated from Eastern High School, and from Church Home and Hospital in 1950. She worked at the Johns Hopkins Hospital as a critical care nurse for seven years before moving with her husband, a Hopkins surgeon, to Charlottesville, Va., and the University of Virginia Hospital, where she served as head nurse on a surgical floor.

A Salisbury resident since 1963, she took courses at Salisbury University and was a member of Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society. Mary's pride and joy and life centered on her love and devotion for her Lord Jesus and for her four children and 12 grandchildren. Friends known and unknown enjoyed her presence and the light she brought to all she touched.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. William Paul Sadler; children Martha Sadler Farace and husband Jeff and Michael, Matthew, David and Luke; Marybeth Scott and husband Robert and Maggie, Max and Mae Van Fossen; John Royston Sadler and wife Pam, and Zach and Annabelle and Abigail Dickinson and husband Luke; Evelyn Ann Wallace, husband Charles and Gary and Virginia Dubbs.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 2, at Trinity United Methodist Church on High Street in Salisbury. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow later in the day at Old Trinity Church in Church Creek, Md.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Christian Union, 240 Nassau St., Princeton, NJ 08542.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home PA at 501 Snow Hill Road in Salisbury.
