Compassionate Friends to meet May 9 for Mother's Day reflections

May 3, 2013

The Lighthouse Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 9, in the Branford Lounge at Epworth United Methodist Church.

The topic of the evening will be, What Do You Do on Mother’s Day? Participants will be asked to share their remembrances of how they may have spent Mother’s Day with their child and discuss reflections that have stayed with them and helped them deal with the death of a child. Participants are asked to bring a photo of their child for the memory table and discussion.

Epworth UMC is on Holland Glade Road about a quarter mile from its intersection with Route 1.  For information about The Compassionate Friends or the Lighthouse Chapter, call Team Leader Marge LaFond at 302-702-2383.

The Compassionate Friends was founded 40 years ago when a chaplain at the Warwickshire Hospital in England brought together two sets of grieving parents and realized that the support they gave each other was better than anything he, as a chaplain, could ever say or provide.

Today, more than 625 chapters serving all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico offer friendship, understanding and hope to bereaved parents, siblings, grandparents and other family members during the natural grieving process after a child has died. Around the world, more than 30 countries have a Compassionate Friends presence, encircling the globe with support so desperately needed when the worst has happened.
