Worcester Prep students win 2013 Optimist oratorical competition

May 5, 2013

Worcester Prep freshman Devin Hammond, left, and eighth-grade student Keegan Pando were the Worcester County winners in the 2013 Optimist International Oratorical Competition. Pando was also the winner of the Eastern Shore competition and represented the region in the state of Maryland competition. Worcester Headmaster Dr. Barry Tull said, “These students and the others who participate in the annual competition have gained skills that will serve them well in the future. Previous participants and winners often refer to their experiences in the Optimist competition by saying how much it helped them in college and scholarship interviews and with the ability to stand up and speak with confidence in college and in their careers.”

Both Hammond and Pando are all-round students who excel in academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. Hammond is the daughter of Mark and Aimee Hammond of Berlin, Md.; Pando is the son of Dr. Jose and Catherine Pando of Lewes.
