Each year, wide eyes and little hands look forward in early May to their school's trip to Green Acres Farm, Delaware's largest dairy farm located off Route 9 near Lewes, and home to the 27th annual 4-H Spring Farm Tour.
Sponsored by University of Delaware Cooperative Extension 4-H and the Hopkins family, the May 8-9 event attracted more than 1,700 young students from schools and pre-schools throughout the county. The event ended with every child getting a free ice cream cone from Hopkins Dairy Creamery.
Students took tours of the milking room, watched a puppet show, took tractor rides and got up close and personal with cows, calves, baby chicks, pigs and goats.
The Sussex County 4-H team was led by Mike Love along with extension staff and volunteers from 4-H clubs and Sussex County Master Gardeners.
