Rehoboth Beach eats: Getting better all the time!

May 16, 2013

Welcome back! While you weren’t looking, the landscape of Rehoboth Beach eats shifted a bit. But fear not! Your Foodie keeps track of all things tasty, so grab your forks and join the fun.

Specialty shops were the theme as Morgan & Gower Cheesemongers opened just before Christmas. Certified cheese maniac Andy Meddick has crammed a huge variety of imported and domestic fromage into that tiny space next to Café Azafrán.

On the other end of Baltimore Ave., Frank & Louie Bascio are pushin’ Italian goodies once again. Joy Quinn opened her third installation of The Spice & Tea Exchange in the first block of the Avenue just steps from the Boardwalk. From coriander to catnip, this place is a must-see.

Former JAM Bistro sous chef Joe Churchman and his wife Megan are promising a mid-June opening for Bramble & Brine in the third block of the Avenue. 1776 Steakhouse boss Tom Holmes teamed up with business partner and chef Tammy Mozingo to open The Pint in Millsboro. (Churchman was the opening chef when that space hosted Luca.) Tim Gouvas of Louie’s Pizza morphed Timothy’s Taphouse into Beachcomber where yummy bar grub and live entertainment keep the place hoppin’.

Leo Cabrera is mixing boozy fruit-infused cocktails at Modern Mixture (look for the orange awning). Directly across the Avenue, Back Porch Café opens for its 39th year (!). A huge Chick-fil-A sprung up from the K-Mart parking lot in what seemed like 3 days. Chipotle Mexican Grill is rollin’ tasty burritos in Tanger Seaside directly across the highway from the soon-to-seat-a-hundred-diners Touch of Italy. Pizza Palace in Midway Galleria reinvents itself as La Angelos right next door to the perpetually busy Panera Bread.

The copper stills are a’bubblin’ as Old Bay Steak & Seafood becomes Delaware Distilling Company. Jim Baeurle (of Dewey’s Qué Pasa & The Lighthouse) modernizes the iconic Captain’s Table on the Forgotten Mile with new menus and breakfasts as the Hyatt Place slowly grows out of the Ruddertowne parking lot.

Get in touch with chewing history as Nancy Alexander debuts her early summer Beach Eats exhibit at the Rehoboth Beach Museum.
