Seaford gospel singer Jerry Jones cuts album

Country crooner touring in support of new works
June 8, 2013

Local country gospel singer Jerry Jones has released his first album, “Jerry Jones Country Gospel: The Original Country Music."

At 66, Jones said he has spent his entire life singing and playing music, but his career never went anywhere until he had a spiritual awakening.

"I’m kind of a late bloomer I guess, but I gave my heart to the Lord 10 years ago," he said. "I’ve been singing all my life, but my music never did anything until that day. Everything has happened since then."

The new album is his first national release, Jones said. Despite that, he has been touring the country and performing with his wife Jeannie as many as 250 days each year since he began singing gospel music nearly nine years ago.

Playing the role of singer and songwriter on this album, Jones said he wrote the music for all the songs, but his wife, Jeannie, wrote the verses for "I won't be here."

A deeply religious man, Jones said for him, his music is his ministry.

"I consider myself a music minister because all my music tells stories," he said.

Recently performing across Sussex County in support of his album, Jones will appear Sunday, May 26, at the Leisure Point RV Resort church service in Long Neck.

Jones will be in Delaware until the end of June, he said, when he will again head out on the road with his wife to tour the Mid-West.

The singer said he is open to adding more local dates to his touring schedule before he departs and will be at Crossroads Christian Books and Music in Vineland, N.J. for an album signing June 15.
