Future resident concerned about Lopez

May 23, 2013

As a future resident of your great state, I was grateful to hear that the Delaware state government passed HB 75 (same-sex marriage) and that my marriage to my partner will be honored in Delaware. But I'm appalled at the comments made by state Sen. Ernesto Lopez on the floor during the Senate debate.

Granted, I know little about the campaign he was involved in during the election season, but his comments indicate he is angry at his opponent for sending out a negative flyer during the campaign. It's hard to believe Sen. Lopez voted against HB 75 because of one person's actions.

I hate to think I might be moving from a district in Maryland, where my state senator bases his votes on thoughtful contemplation, to one where my senator makes important decisions based on personal grievances. That is not how democracy is supposed to work. Perhaps a change is necessary?
