American Legion: A little time giving back

May 27, 2013

If you know a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, you know that we get great pleasure serving our veterans and their families. We try to give back a little kindness to those who fought for our freedom.

On May 15, veterans from the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere, Milford Veterans Home and Home of the Brave, also in Milford, came to Lewes for a day of fishing at Cape Henlopen State Park. The day was perfect with sunny skies and a gentle breeze. Volunteers from the American Legion, and Auxiliary Unit 17, along with some faithful friends made the day enjoyable for some of our heros. After several hours of casting and conversation, the group returned to Legion Post 17 to enjoy lunch and a little more time to chat.

We wish to thank the attendants that came from each location to provide support for the veterans and all those volunteers who helped make this event possible. Also thank you to Ice House Bait & Tackle for providing bait at reduced rates. Those guys are fabulous.

public relations, American Legion Post 17
