Beebe welcomes Nnamdi Azie, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon

Cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon Nnamdi Azie, MD, has joined the Beebe medical staff and is in practice with cardiothoracic surgeon M.L. Ray Kuretu, MD, at 400 Savannah Road in Lewes. He can be contacted by calling 302-644-4282.

Azie brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Beebe Medical Center. He is board certified in cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery and general surgery. He has joined the Beebe medical staff from Ohio, where he was an attending cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy, Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton and Kettering Medical Center in Kettering,

Azie earned his medical degree in 1986 from the University of Nigeria Medical School; he completed a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa., and a vascular surgery fellowship at Ohio State University. He also completed fellowships at the Royal College of Surgeons in England and at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, Scotland.

Azie is an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in England.

Azie met Kuretu in 1999 when Azie did his residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital. At the time, Kuretu was serving as both an attending surgeon and an assistant professor at Hahnemann.

Kuretu, who came to Beebe Medical Center in 2010, is the medical director of the cardiac surgery program. He has trained many of today’s cardiac surgeons and has been a strong leader and active member of Beebe Medical Center’s cardiac surgery program since his arrival. Also a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon, he previously served as medical director of cardiothoracic surgery at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Darby, Pa.

“This is an exciting time for Beebe’s cardiac surgery program and our community as we add new faces and move our program forward to new heights,” said Lynn Amey, executive director of Cardiac and Vascular Services at Beebe.

Beebe Medical Center offers a comprehensive cardiac and vascular program that includes cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, vascular surgery and interventions, a full range of cardiac and vascular testing and monitoring, and cardiac rehab.

Azie is one of more than 350 members of the Beebe medical staff. They represent nearly 30 specialties and have offices throughout eastern Sussex County. He also brings the total number of board-certified vascular surgeons at Beebe Medical Center to three.
