Sussex Big Brothers, Sisters say thanks

On May 15, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sussex County held a fundraiser at Milford Lanes and it was a successful night, not only for our fundraising bowlers, but also for the children (Littles) and the volunteers (Bigs) who attended as well.  Everyone had a great night bowling and the participants won some outstanding door prizes donated by the businesses mentioned below and enjoyed Grotto Pizza.  Participants raised almost $21,000 which tops our previous high by almost $7,000.

I would like to thank the following people and businesses that helped make the evening a success for BBBS.  I want to thank everyone on our advisory team for their leadership and to those members who worked the event and/or contributed financially.  I also would like to thank the following teams:  Bill and Billy Collick and Talishia Hopkins, Katie Halen and the Beebe Team, Jane Severs and the Bay Health Team, John Schroeder and Friends Team, Jim Barr and the Shore Bank Team, Mike Anthenelli Teams, Zac Webb and American Eagle Outfitters Team, Elizabeth Fields and Bethel Bowlers, Jan Urdel and IG Burton Team, Karen Duffield and the Chamber Teams, Milford Housing Team, Orville and Gloria Mills and friends, Jan Ezell and County Bank, Shawn McConnell and Friends, Mary O’Connor and her Little Friends, Sposato Landscape Team, Milford Housing Team, Prudential Gallo Teams, Dorothy Dobbyn and Jackie Horst Long Neck Elementary Team, Fulton Bank Team, Joe’s Beach 2 Team, Wal-Mart Teams, Community Bank Team, Pat Jackson and Friends team, the State Service Center team, The Boardwalkers, Margaret McVey and Simpson Team and “Ginger”.

The businesses that contributed door prizes were Abbott’s Grill, Arena’s, Best Ace Hardware, Bethany Blues, Big Fish Grill, The Buttery, Albert Frank Jewelry, Casapulla’s, Casa Di Leo, Cracker Barrel, Duck in Car Wash, Essential Touch Massage, Fisher’s Popcorn, The Frog House, Lewes Cycle Shop, Liquid Board Shop, Movies at Midway, Midway Par 3 Golf, Nage Restaurant, Nicola Pizza, Outback Steakhouse, Pig and Fish Restaurant, The Rookery, Rehoboth Car Wash, Rehoboth Toys and Kites, Seaside DOJO Mart. Arts, Tomato Sunshine Garden, Sir Claude’s DJ Service, and Safeway.

We had sponsorships from Grotto Pizza, Sussex County Council, Bay Health Medical Center, Beebe Medical Center, Truitt’s Insurance Company, Heritage Antiques, Jack Lingo Real Estate, Sposato Landscape, IG Burton and Company, Dr. Curtis Leciejewski, Cape Gazette, Jay Stein, Linda Rogers and Kathy Giannone.

Our goal was to hold a successful fundraiser to raise money for programming for our kids and we were able to accomplish that thanks to all of the above.  We are also trying to  recruit volunteers from all over the county to become Bigs so anyone who is interested in becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister please call us at 856-2918 or go to our web site at www.bbbsde.org.
