Thoughts From the Sidelines

With summer comes Heat – and Spurs

June 6, 2013

The NBA finals are finally here! Miami Heat versus the San Antonio Spurs, no big surprise. This was predicted to be the final by most sports commentators as the playoffs began. Oklahoma City Thunder was the only other team in the Western Conference that was being picked to have any chance to play Miami for this championship. It turned out that the Miami Heat weren't going to be able to breeze through the Eastern Conference. The Indiana Pacers forced them to a game seven this past week, which the Heat won handily. I think the finals will be very exciting overall, and I think Miami will win ultimately because of Lebron James. Watching him is like watching Michael Jordan all over again!

The Phillies are on a pretty good winning streak and that walk-off home run in the 11th inning with the Marlins on Tuesday night was a great ending to a very frustrating game! We need to keep on winning to have any hope of catching the Atlanta Braves with their substantial lead in the division.

I have been watching the French Open this week as well, but it is impossible to accurately report on the results because they change every day. I have a bit of a hard time following the ball on the clay surface but I really enjoy the depth of the talent in this tournament.  I will report my thoughts on the closing of this event next week, along with the U.S. Open golf preview.
