Miracle Mile celebrates 10th anniversary

The first Spirit of Hope Caregivers Award was presented to the Sussex County Cancer Survivors Fund. The Sussex County Cancer Survivors Fund has raised over $101,000 and donated the funds to the Tunnell Cancer Center for patients' special needs. Beebe Medical Center’s Tunnell Cancer Center celebrated its 10th Miracle Mile June 8. Cancer survivors along with friends and families and a large contingent of caregivers attended the event to celebrate life and to help survivors make each day a special day.

The walk started with a ceremony at All Saints' Episcopal Church on Olive Avenue in Rehoboth Beach with songs, testimonials and the presentation of the first Spirit of Hope Caregivers Award.

Shown is Dr. Srihari Peri, Tunnell Cancer Center’s medical director, giving his Message of Hope. Peri compared the war on cancer with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The warriors who come home from those wars are honored with medals. “But what happens to these warriors who fought the war against cancer? They have been given the best gift, the gift of life.”
