Autism Delaware’s Blue Jean Ball set for Sept. 21

Organizations seeks sponsors, auction item donors
June 14, 2013

Autism Delaware will host the annual Blue Jean Ball in the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center from 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21. With a dress code of blue jeans and bling, the gala has been a favorite event in southern Delaware for years, featuring a live auction and an extensive silent auction of gift certificates from local restaurants, jewelry, memorabilia and more.

Tickets cost $85 per person and price includes hors d’oeuvres and desserts from prominent local restaurants; beer, wine, and specialty cocktails; and dancing to Delaware’s own Love Seed Mama Jump. Seating is guaranteed for all ticket holders. Premium reserved seating remains available to Blue Jean Ball sponsors.

“Attendance at the event along with any purchases you make will help fund Autism Delaware’s much-needed statewide programs and further Autism Delaware’s mission to create better lives for people with autism and their families in Delaware,” says Dorian Rowe Kleinstuber, a longtime event co-chair.

“The need for services, like family support and adult vocational services, has grown with the number of people who are affected by autism,” says Teresa Avery, MBA, Autism Delaware’s executive director. “Last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that one in every 88 American children is now being diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. These numbers are skyrocketing. In fact, according to a CDC survey released this year, the prevalence may be as high as one in 50, which means a lot more families are struggling with issues around autism.”

“Autism Delaware also provides informational and referral services,” adds event co-chair Koh Morrisey, “social events, and recreational outings, such as summer day camp, junior golf and the summer swim program. Can you think of a better way to spend an evening than at an event that benefits Autism Delaware?”
