Information on early learning programs throughout Delaware offered on new website

June 13, 2013

A new website, www.greatstartsdelaware.com, launched by the Delaware Office of Early Learning, offers Delaware families with infants, toddlers and preschool-age children access to a comprehensive collection of resources for early learning.

The new website connects visitors with a searchable database of Delaware Stars early learning programs that lists programs available close to where families live, work or attend school. The Delaware Stars program provides a guide for families who are looking for quality early childhood programs for their young children.

In addition, the site delivers practical information to help families identify what to look for to find a quality early learning program, tips on the type of questions to ask when searching for a program and the latest scientific information about how a young child’s brain develops, including arresting videos on the topic and links to other resources to learn more, such as the Harvard Center for the Developing Child.

“Our goal is to have families use the website as a resource to learn more about just how important early learning is for young children, how to find quality early learning programs and have easy access to the most current information about the development of children from birth to 5,” said Office of Early Learning Executive Director Harriet Dichter. “There are also opportunities for families to interact with the website and the community.”

The website is also optimized for use on cellphones to enable families to have access on the go. In addition to the website, families can find information by visiting Great Starts Delaware on Facebook and Twitter.

Working together with the Delaware Children’s Department, Department of Education, and Department of Health and Social Services, The Delaware Office of Early Learning provides leadership to accomplish the ambitious and important goals of the Early Learning Challenge grant.
