Henlopen Soccer Club U12 Sharks win state cup

June 13, 2013

Henlopen Soccer Club’s U12 Sharks are Delaware State Cup champions.

They will travel to Rhode Island representing Delaware in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships. The U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series caps a yearlong tournament that features competition for boys' and girls' teams in the U12 through U19 age groups.

In Region I, the series begins with teams in all 15 state associations which includes from Maine to Virginia and New York to West Virginia vying for their state championship titles. State champions and Region I Premier League are eligible to compete in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships. These championships will be held in Kingston, R.I., June 27 through July 2.

The Sharks are not new to regional competitions; in the past two years they have traveled, competed and won tournament titles in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

“The Delaware State Cup Championship is a significant accomplishment for a southern Delaware club team," said Jason Moshier, president of Henlopen Soccer Club. "Earning the right to represent Delaware is a big deal for these local kids. For the past two years, the kids on this team committed themselves to achieve this goal. Through hard work and teamwork, they have a state championship. As a club committed to the Cape community, we should all be very proud of them.”

The club is in search of support for travel expenses. The goal is to raise $8,000. Any and all amounts are appreciated. Mail tax-deductible donations to Henlopen Soccer Club, P.O. Box 384, Nassau DE 19969. Please write in the memo field “Go Sharks!”
