Milton Century Club awards two $2,000 scholarships

June 22, 2013

One of the Milton Century Club’s proudest moments each year is when the club awards its scholarships to college-bound 12th-grade girls either residing within the 19968 ZIP code or eligible to attend Mariner Middle School in Milton. “The aim of our scholarship program is to encourage young women to attend college,” said Milton Century Club President Maryann Donnan when she announced that this year two scholarships, each in the amount of $2,000, would be awarded.

The 2013 scholarship recipients are Erica Parkhurst and Alexis Leskovac. Parkhurst lives in Milton and graduated from Sussex Technical High School. She will attend Salisbury University in Maryland and plans to major in biology. Leskovac lives in Lincoln and graduated from Cape Henlopen High School. She will enroll at the University of Delaware in the fall and plans a major in medical diagnostics.

“The Milton Century Club, with just over 50 members, works diligently throughout the year to raise funds for its scholarship program and many other charitable contributions,” said Judy Shandler, chair of the Education Committee. “We take personal interest in each of our scholarship recipients and look forward to following their progress through college.” Scholarship applications are available in the guidance departments of all area high schools each spring. Home schooled and GED applicants may request an application in the spring by sending an email to judyshandler@comcast.net.

The Milton Century Club is a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The GFWC is one of the world’s oldest and largest women’s service organizations dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service. Each club sets its agenda and works on projects and programs that address the specific needs of their communities. Women interested in joining the club may contact Maureen Blasic at blasic@comcast.net.
