Asthma Camp to educate youth July 15 to 19 in Lewes

June 21, 2013

The American Lung Association in Delaware invites all youth 7-11 years old with moderate to severe asthma to Asthma Camp in Lewes. Asthma Camp will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, July 15 to 19, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive.

The camp is designed to help youth learn how to cope with and manage their moderate to severe asthma early in life. Days consist of education sessions, games and field trips around the region. The camp is supervised by a medical professional; having medical personnel on hand is very important to the camp. They are able to spend one-on-one time with the campers, teaching proper peak-flow measurement and inhaler techniques.

"Kids with asthma get to be kids at Asthma Camp," said Nicole Goldsboro of the American Lung Association in Delaware. “It enables kids to have fun and to learn how to manage their disease early on, so that they may be able to keep it under control as their lungs grow and develop.”

This is the type of unique asthma-management training that children often do not receive in busy doctors’ offices and hospital settings. The cost of the camp is $50, but scholarships are available.

For more information or to register, contact Goldsboro at 302-737-6414, Ext. 16 or email ngoldsboro@lunginfo.org.
