After reading the letter to the editor from Carol Furr in the June 14 edition of the Cape Gazette, I felt compelled to write a response to make sure that the facts are all clearly present.
First, it should be known the Mrs. Furr is a disgruntled previous board member of the KSPCA who was dismissed from her position. Since her removal, her personal mission is to discredit the KSPCA.
Secondly, Mrs. Furr repeatedly suggests that the KCSPCA is not in compliance with FOIA, but fails to specifically point out any violation. In fact, all KSPCA board meetings are open to the public and regularly attended by Mrs. Furr and several others whose sole purpose it is to spin negative publicity in regard to the KSPCA. After the attorney general took the position that FOIA applies to the KCSPCA, the board officially resolved to comply with FOIA; and the KCSPCA is now in full compliance with the requirements of that statute.
The unfortunate truth is animal welfare in the state of Delaware is now politicized. More time is spent on smear campaigns and trying to disparage competing organizations than is spent on efforts that will actually benefit the quality of life of the animals. At the heart of the matter are opposing views from those who support the no kill movement and the KSPCA, who as the only open door shelter in Delaware must accept the animals brought to them and will euthanize an animal when necessary.
I would ask that anyone interested in animal welfare in the State of Delaware be sure to do their own homework before forming any opinions based on the propaganda that is being spread by those who have a personal interest in defaming the KCSPCA. Assuredly, there is another side to this story.
