Gail Phillips, RAI volunteer tutor, receives Linda Reddick Volunteerism Award

June 20, 2013

Marilyn Monahan, executive director of the Reading ASSIST Institute in Wilmington and Milford, recently announced that Gail Phillips was awarded the Linda Reddick Award for outstanding volunteerism at its Downstate Champions of Literacy Luncheon at Abbott’s Grill on May 3. Phillips has provided valuable service to RAI and both Seaford Elementary School and Georgetown Elementary School as a reading tutor in its Volunteer Tutor Program.

The award is named in memory of Linda Reddick, a Rehoboth resident who epitomized the volunteer spirit in her service to children at risk for reading failure. Reddick lost her battle with cancer in 2011.

The annual luncheon honors all contributors to Reading ASSIST’s mission to improve the literacy skills of children at risk for reading failure. RAI held its New Castle County Champions of Literacy Luncheon May 17 at the Waterfall Banquet Center in Claymont.

Also, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, Gov. Jack Markell and Senators Bruce Ennis and Harris McDowell were awarded Champions of Literacy Awards for their contributions to child literacy through RAI’s programs.

Reading ASSIST Institute is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. For more information about Reading ASSIST Institute and its programs, call 302-425-4080 or visit www.readingassist.org.
