Fast times highlight Father's Day 5K in Rehoboth

25 runners break 20 minutes; O'Brien wins in 15:47

The 22nd annual Father’s Day 5K was held June 16 in Rehoboth Beach, and won by Mike O’Brien, 23, in the very fast time of 15:47. Dan Swain, 21, was second in 16:17, followed by Andrew Groff, 18, in 16:46 and Enos Benbow in 16:51.

Joanna Baird, 20, was the first woman in 18:46, with 17-year-old Elizabeth Scott on her heels in 18:48.

The top 25 runners broke the magical 20-minute barrier highlighted by young guns Vaughn Parts, 15, in 17:15; Andrew Weird, 14, 17:34; Jake Bamforth, 15, 19:20; and Blake Hundley, 11, 19:33.

There were 394 finishers in the race. Josh Simpson, 31, won his Clydesdale Division in 20:07. There were 10 men to compete as Clydesdales and eight women in the Fillies category. The women’s winner was Laura Marvin in 28:07.

Olivia Weir, 11, won the 10-13 age group in 22:17.

Eve Hoffman, 26, a doctor now doing her residency in orthopedics won the 25-29 age group in 20:16. Abby Andrews, 30, won her new age group in 21:28.

Meryl Ludwig, 47, continues to run fast, capturing the 45-49 in 21:15.

Karen Johnston, 50, won her new 50-54 group in 24:20.

Jill Extract, 56, won her age group in 26:15.

Andrea Hoffman, 64, ran 27:36 to capture the 60-64. Joann Szczepkowski, 67, continues to dominate her age category, running 24:15.

Twenty runners and one photographer completed the Triple Crown of three races in three towns over three days.
