Strive for Five mission accomplished; girls' lacrosse begins Quest for Six

June 20, 2013

The Strive for Five state championship mission was accomplished; the slogan was coined by Sara Young at state championship banquet four. Banquet five was so familiar that no program was printed; the order was whatever we did the previous four years.

The Zen Master of Cape girls' lacrosse, coach P.J. Kesmodel, joked at the end of the Wednesday banquet, "I guess we need a slogan for next year, perhaps Quick Stick Chicks for Six." Kesmodel smiled and everyone including parents tried to remember the correct sequence and could not, deciding a shorter slogan was necessary.

Seniors Anna Frederick and Sara Young were co-MVPs on the team and both USLA first team All-Americans. The best friends duo leaves Cape having shared six state championships - two in field hockey - and they were all-state players in both sports. They take with them 371 career goals.

"We have 14 varsity players returning, so I think we should be pretty good," Kesmodel said. "It will be very different without Anna and Sara, who could take over a game, but now is the chance for some other very good players to step it up a notch or two."
