Touchdowns for Kids golf event set for June 24

June 20, 2013

The ninth annual Touchdowns for Kids will take place Monday, June 24, at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach. The event is hosted by Starboard owner Steve ‘Monty’ Montgomery and former Washington Redskin Reggie Branch, a longtime Starboard employee. The two hope the community will join them for another great year of golf and fundraising to benefit local sports programs.

Several years ago, two-time Super Bowl champion Branch wanted to give back to his community - he called the beach home for 17 years following his NFL career. Touchdowns for Kids is his way to help raise much-needed funds for the community’s local athletic programs including Rehoboth Beach Little League, Cape Vikings Pop Warner Football, and Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach junior lifeguarding.

Branch brings some of his NFL alumni with him, making for a fun-filled day of golf and fellowship. The day kicks off with registration and a lunch at Kings Creek Country Club. After lunch, at about 12:30, there is a shotgun start and the golf begins. It all concludes with a post-tournament reception with awards, music and the usual colorful speech from Branch.

Turnout is expected to be high as in years past, and as always, there are several ways to be involved, from individual player options to platinum sponsorships. Both Branch and Montgomery are thankful for the community’s continued support in raising money for athletic programs in the area. They stress the importance of it because the local community is seasonal and sees an influx in the summer, but there is necessity throughout the whole year for the programs.

Montgomery said, “This is a fun way to enjoy some great individuals who played professional football, play a beautiful golf course in Kings Creek, and be around wonderful people as we all pitch in to help out our youth sports organizations here in Sussex County - hope you can join us!”
