Midway Lions Club establishes charitable foundation

Funds go to scholarship program for Sussex County students
June 23, 2013

The Midway Lions have established the Midway Lions Charitable Foundation Inc., so the club can now accept grants and donations that are tax-deductible to the donors.

This foundation has become a reality through the hard work of Lion Tom Coco and his committee. His main fundraising effort has been selling ads for the Governor's Ball Ad Book.

The first decision made by the foundation committee was to establish a scholarship fund for a 12th-grade senior living in Sussex County in the amount of $1,000. A second scholarship, also $1,000, was made possible this year by an individual's donation to the fund.

The two $1,000 scholarship awards were made to Sussex Tech High School senior Bethany Killmon, who will be attending Misericordia University in Pennsylvania, and Cape Henlopen senior Clarissa Stevens, who will be attending Virginia Wesleyan College. Both Killmon and Stevens have outstanding resumés that include high scholastic averages, many hours of community service and attributes of outstanding citizenship.
