Well-known shore artist Ellen Rice will introduce the first in a new series of paintings featuring local and visiting children called Children by the Sea Wednesday, July 3, at The Ellen Rice Gallery in Ocean View.
Prints of her first oil in the series, “Discovery,” featuring the daughter of John and Patricia Moore of northern Delaware, will debut with a wine and cheese reception from 4 to 6 p.m.
The artist and writer is looking for other children to feature in the series of small oils, and is accepting photo submissions to review. Images selected to be painted may become part of an inspirational line of greeting cards that illustrate the joy of having a childlike frame of mind.
“I’m looking for photos that show interactions - with other children, parents, grandparents, pets, nature - and illustrate life’s joys through a child’s eyes - that show giving, sharing, delight, friendship, relationships and so on. ‘Discovery’ shows the joy of being in the moment,” said Rice.
Parents or guardians who would like their child, children or grandchildren to be considered may come to the reception to talk with Rice or contact her via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, on her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/ellenricegallery or by calling 302-539-3405 to set up an appointment.
Parents and guardians will have the first opportunity, but no obligation, to purchase their child or grandchild’s oil painting; prices start at $650. The pricing of the Children by the Sea series original oils is substantially lower than Rice’s formal portrait rates as compensation for her use of the subjects for greeting cards and/or prints. The artist will retain all rights to reproduction, but will make prints available to relatives who wish to purchase them.
The Ellen Rice Gallery is open daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday. More of Rice’s work can be seen at ellenrice.com.
