Katie Becker: Story of a Vocation July 22 at St. Jude the Apostle

Lewes native shares journey from Delaware to France
July 7, 2013

St. Jude The Apostle Parish will host Katie Becker, a novice in Chemin Neuf, at St. Pierre d’Curtille, France, at 7 p.m., Monday, July 22, in the Parish Life Center at St. Jude The Apostle Church in Lewes. Chemin Neuf is an international Roman Catholic religious community with an ecumenical vocation. Couples, families, and single men and women of all Christian faiths live a community life to follow Christ and to serve the church and the world.

Becker grew up in Lewes, attended schools in the Cape Henlopen School District, and graduated from St. Thomas More Academy in Magnolia and Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, Pa. This 25-year-old woman will share the story of her vocation journey, which began at her home parish of St. Jude’s and continues at the 12th-century Hautecombe Abbey in France.

Becker began her novitiate in August 2012 and has spent the past year at the abbey and at a local parish working with young adults to help them discern their life’s direction. While on her first home visit since entering the novitiate, Becker will tell the story of the work of her community and of her own vocation, as well as offer ways for young people to discern God’s call.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information, call St. Jude The Apostle Religious Education Office at 302-644-7413. St. Jude The Apostle Church is at 152 Tulip Drive and Route 1, just north of Five Points, Lewes.
