Let George do it alive and well

July 8, 2013

Apparently the old “Let George do it” is alive and well. The last few sessions of Congress have resulted in several cuts in the benefits of federal employees, their pay has been frozen, they are required to pay much more into their retirement fund and they are being furloughed. Now there is a bill, H.R.1780, to take them away from their current health plans, FEHBP.

Federal retirees have been spared so far; however, if this bill passes it will reduce the pool size of the FEHBP, causing rates to skyrocket for retired federal employees who remain in the plan. The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, NARFE, is the only organization dedicated solely to protecting the benefits of active and retired federal employees.

In spite of all these actions, federal employees and retirees are choosing to sit on the sidelines and watch, rather than joining the lone organization dedicated to protecting the benefits that they worked for years to earn. Apparently, they think that George will take care of everything for them. Particularly in politics, there is safety in numbers. When NARFE is your safety net, don’t you want it to squeak as loud as possible when they speak out to protect your earned benefits? Help NARFE help you.
