Mediterranean cuisine, wine and trees, and a trip to the moon fill summer slate at East Coast Garden Center

'Catching Apollo' July 18 looks at history of space program

East Coast Garden Center offers something for everyone with a full slate of classes, events and travel opportunities through the summer - from a taste of northern Italian or Greek cuisine to the Apollo Program, cooking demos and horticulture classes.

Jack Clemons will present “Catching Apollo” at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 18. Participants will learn about the Apollo Program from someone who was there. Cost is $10 per person.

Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21, are Pink Days. The weekend offers discounts, giveaways and pink flowers. Raffle proceeds will benefit breast cancer research. Two free classes are scheduled: Hydrangea Care at 11 a.m., Saturday, and Pink Plants at 1 p.m., Sunday.

From 6 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, July 25, Summer Specialties of the Greek Culture: Appetizers, led by Liz Vasilikos, includes a tasting of ouzo and a lesson on how to make favorite Greek appetizers like tiropita and hummus, eggplant dips and more. Cost is $30 pp.

Back by popular demand, Tune Your Palate comes at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 8. This cooking demo, wine tasting and concert with Paul Cullen features products of Touch of Italy and Teller Wines. Cullen will demonstrate how to make his Italian cuisine from the Trentino-Alto Adige Region of Italy, pairing the food with wines and playing Mediterranean-style guitar. $45 pp.

From 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9, Learning From the Light offers lessons to live by from those who have passed on. Cost of $55 pp includes snacks and materials.

From 5 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16, is Summer Soiree - Wine & Trees. This free event gives a new look at pairing as staff members offer creative combinations of wine and trees.

For those who are looking for great food and wine and a chance to travel, Explore the Pacific Northwest, Aug. 12 to 19, offers all three. Included in this package are wine tasting, whale watching, lovely gardens including one made of glass, and breathtaking scenery as travelers visit Portland, Ore.; Seattle, Wash.; and Victoria, Canada.
