Marcell 'Poochie' Holloman-Jefferson, devoted to church

Marcell Yvette Holloman-Jefferson "Poochie", 48, was born Nov. 16, 1964, in Lewes and departed this life Wednesday, June 26, 2013. at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.

Poochie attended Cape Henlopen High School, where she graduated in 1983.  After a short period of working numerous jobs to include the Jolly Trolley, she started her career driving the school bus for David and Helen Truitt, until she became her own contractor for the Cape Henlopen School District.

Poochie was a member of Bethel AME Church of Milton, where she was an active member of the usher board, a stewardess, a member of the mass choir, a Sunday school superintendent, member of Ministry in Movement Praise Team, and a Bible study teacher until she became physically unable to attend church, but she continued to serve actively as the Christian Education Director.

Poochie loved the Lord and even though she lacked the ability to attend church, she would still minister and pray with whomever, or whenever possible, from her hospital bed and when at home.  Poochie loved her daughter and her family especially the favorite nieces (she would tell each niece they were her favorite).

Poochie leaves behind to mourn and cherish her memories, her husband James Melvin Jefferson "JJ" of Georgetown; mother-in-law Mary E. Jefferson; her daughter Aishia Malyka-Mae Shante Michelle Holloman (and special friend) of Milton; sisters Shirley A. Frisby of Maryland, and Dorothy B. Purnell and Patricia Ann Bowden of Dover;  brothers William E. Bowden,Jr., of Florida and  Parcell Eugene Cirwithian (Belinda) of Georgia; a sister, Phyllis L. Gibbs of Lincoln; a sister, Sharon Farlo (Marvin) of Dover; brother Trevor Harmon of Lewes; a sister, Monique Millbourne of Dover; her aunt Mary Holloman-Bowden (Charlie) of Dover; great-aunt Alice Jackson of Florida; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Ann Jefferson of Milton, Thelma Mae Allison of Michigan and Irene Allen of Cannonbury; one brother-in-law, Solomon Jefferson (Jamilla) of Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, to include her extended family of grandchildren; special cousin Reginald Bowden (Nicole) of Florida, who was instrumental in her care and well-being; a special caregiver, Joi Williams; and a devoted friend and bus driver, Amos Bratton; and long time best friend, Haddie Harris.

Poochie is predeceased in death by her father, Parcell Eugene Holloman; mother Dorothy Mae Holloman; two grandmothers, Earnestine Sheppard-Gray and Mildred Holloman; grandfather John Hadley; and nephew Quamere Bowden.

Services will be held at noon, Saturday, July 6, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 23115 Slaughter Neck Road, Lincoln.  Friends may call two hours prior.
