The JROTC Summer Leadership Camp was held at Bethany Beach National Guard Training Station June 16-21. Nine JROTC cadets from Sussex Tech Raven Battalion voluntarily participated in Camp Vigilance 2013. Students stayed in the base barracks and were given many opportunities to learn and build their leadership skills.

The cadets participated in a rigorous five-day program of physical fitness and mental challenges that tested their teamwork and organizational skills on the ground, in the water, and high in the air.

They took numerous trips to places that included the Dover Air Force Base Museum, the Coast Guard Station at Indian River and Gunpowder Falls in Maryland, Delaware Air National Guard Base and Delaware Army National Guard Base in New Castle. Cadets also participated in Land Navigation competition at Ingram’s Pond.

Graduation ceremonies were held on Friday. Guest speaker was Colonel Mike Berry, Brigade Commander of the Delaware Army National Guard. He assisted U.S. Army (Ret.) Colonel Joseph Arata, Camp Commandant of Camp Vigilance, with the presentation of awards to cadets for outstanding performance during the week. All cadets received a participation certificate.
