Rehoboth-Dewey Chamber welcomes Purr-fectly Thrifty

Resale shop supports animal welfare
July 12, 2013

The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony July 8 for Purr-fectly Thrifty. Members of the Chamber Meet & Greet Committee were present to welcome Purr-fectly Thrifty to the resort community.

Purr-fectly Thrifty is a nonprofit resale shop with proceeds benefitting animal welfare in Delaware. Conveniently located on Route 1 just north of Rehoboth Beach, the store offers a full range of resale items including electronics, clothing, glassware, linens, jewelry, sports items and collectibles.

The store’s mission, through Caring Action for Animals Inc., is to improve the quality of life for Delaware’s animals through the receipt of cash donations and sales of gently used items. Store proceeds are used to support food and veterinary assistance to individuals unable to provide for their pets; rescue of animals in dire situations; spay/neuter and care of feral cats; and, sponsorship of cat/dog adoption fairs.

Since opening in July, 2012, the store has provided financial aid for the veterinary care of 13 cats; financially supported the spay/neuter of 34 stray or feral cats; trapped numerous feral cats in the surrounding community for the Trap-Neuter-Release program; facilitated the adoption of 17 special needs cats, numerous kittens and two dogs through the Purr-fectly Thrifty in-store adoption center and liaison efforts; rescued and arranged for the adoption of seven abused cats; contributed 200 pounds of cat and dog food to the animal victims of Hurricane Sandy; sponsored two adoption fairs in conjunction with the Georgetown SPCA; and donated cat and dog food to individuals with pets in need. Purr-fectly Thrifty collaborates on an ongoing basis with local animal welfare groups to promote cat and dog adoptions, TNR, spay/neuter, as well as educating the public on responsible pet care.

In addition to continued support of these activities in the coming year, Caring Actions for Animals Inc., with the public’s help, will be working toward the procurement of a veterinary van to support the needs of various animal rescue groups and provide services to the public on a sliding scale.
