Customers can save money by saving energy July 17

July 16, 2013

Delmarva Power asks all of its customers to conserve energy Wednesday, July 17, as an increased demand for electricity throughout the Mid-Atlantic region is anticipated.  Although the power supply in the region is expected to be sufficient to meet anticipated high demand, customers are encouraged to conserve energy.
For Delmarva Power’s Delaware customers, the Delaware Public Service Commission has approved Peak Energy Savings which rewards customers by offering bill credits when they reduce energy use at home during Peak Savings Days. Delaware customers will automatically receive a phone call indicating that the savings period will be from 2 to 6 p.m., July 17. Customers can also choose to be notified by email or text message.
Delmarva Power‘s Delaware customers who reduce energy use below their specified baseline during the specific hours of the Peak Savings Day can receive a credit of $1.25 off their bill for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of reduced usage, through the Peak Energy Savings Credit program.
For Delaware and Maryland customers participating in Delmarva Power’s voluntary Energy Wise Rewards program a conservation period will be called from 2 to 6 p.m. This means that Delmarva Power will cycle the participants’ air conditioner compressors off and on for short intervals during these hours. Because the air conditioner fans will continue to run, however, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their home, and those who do should experience only a one- to three-degree change. It may take up to a half-hour after the event ends at 6 p.m. for air conditioners to resume normal operations.
Peak Energy Savings Credit and Energy Wise Rewards are voluntary programs. Customers can learn more about Peak Energy Savings Credits by calling 1-855-730-PEAK or go to www.delmarva.com. To learn more about Energy Wise Rewards call 1-866-353-5798 or go to www.delmarva.com/rewards.
