Phillies coming up hot, just like the weather!

July 18, 2013

This year's British Open Championship is coming back to the Muirfield Golf Club in Scotland after 11 years. I would really like to see Ernie Els win this year. He won the last time the championship was held at this course and he won last year's British Open at Royal St. George's in England. This tournament will be interesting to watch as well because Scotland's having a very dry summer so far. We all expect rain and wind when we think of the British Open settings. The hot and dry weather will make the course very different for the players and the viewers. It will be like playing golf on Astroturf if it doesn't rain at all and the ball will bounce and carry much differently than the players are used to. The last time a British Open course played like this was in 2006 when Tiger Woods won. The golf pundits are not seeing him as one of the favorites because of the elbow injury. I think the player to take the trophy will be the one who can do the best job with distance control.

This course over the last 100-plus years has had a lot of the famous golfers earn a win. Some of the Hall of Fame winners include Jack Nicholas, Lee Trevino, Tom Watson, Nick Faldo and Eles. Coverage is all on ESPN for the entire tournament with coverage starting at 4 a.m. for the first two days. Even I will not be up to watch at this hour and will enjoy catching the highlights while eating breakfast.

The Phillies had a very successful homestand going into the All-Star break. They're back at .500 and "kind of " in the playoff hunt. They gotta stay hot just like the next few weeks' weather forecast!
