American Legion Auxiliary Unit 28's Cindy Phillips honored as Unit Member of Year

August 2, 2013

During the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Delaware convention recently held in Dover, Cindy Phillips was honored as Unit Member of the Year.

Phillips has been secretary of Unit 28 for five years and has served as chair for several programs at the unit and department levels as well as serving as department sergeant-at-arms.

As 2012-13 unit poppy chair, she was interviewed on “Catch It Live,” a local radio podcast where she explained the history of the Poppy Program and promoted the American Legion Auxiliary and its importance to the community. She also visited Sussex County Council and secured a donation; she also requested state legislators to name May as American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Month.

Phillips and her husband also work tirelessly on a food mission providing food to veterans, the homeless and families with children. She also coordinates the summer lunch program held at Lingo Creek Apartments in Long Neck during summer months so children can continue to have balanced meals. The summer lunch program is open to any youth 2-17 years of age and is a walk-in from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For more information contact Phillips at 302-945-9191.
